There are so many memories I have of Bernie...but what I remember most is her smile, laughter, warmth and always being welcome at Beverly Grove with the McGrory clan. I hadn’t seen Bernie for many years but some of the happiest memories of my childhood are from the times I shared with her: dancing in the bedroom she shared with her sisters to Kim Wilde; riding our bikes in the gully at the back of the house (I still have a scar on my elbow where I fell off); playing football in the grove; laughing our heads off at the dinner table; watching the 1990 World Cup semi-final penalty shoot out (well, dashing up and down from playing in her room to check the score). I was very privileged to have a childhood friend like Bernie...We shared some milestones together: first day at school; Communion (pretty sure it was Bernie that spilt orange squash on my Communion dress at the breakfast afterwards!! ); Confirmation (where I begged Mum and Dad to let me have Bernadette as my confirmation name) and today, I was very privileged to be there as Bernie made her final journey. I will never forget Bernadette - my lovely friend - and the happy memories. God bless Bernie, rest well now. Love always, Claire x
